Men's Tennis Begins Doubleheader With Sweep

Daniel Simko got a straight set singles win against Boston U.

LOS ANGELES - Men's tennis began its Sunday non-conference doubleheader with a 7-0 win over Boston University (0-9) at the LMU Tennis Center. The team did not lose a set in singles in the sweep.

In doubles, Alex Wilton and Felix Van Kann finished the No. 1 doubles match with an 8-4 win over Josh Friedman and Jesse Frieder. Soon after Daniel Simko and Nick Northcott gain LMU (5-5) the doubles point with an 8-3 win over Michael Kopelman and Emilio Teran on court two. In the final doubles contest, Tom Price and Tyler Gottshall fell to Alex Hallenbeck and Alex Green 8-6.



The Lions swept Boston in singles. Todd Volmari was the first to gain a victory, defeating Emilio Teran 6-1, 6-0 on court three for his third win of the season. Alex Wilton followed that up with a 6-4, 6-0 defeat of Josh Friedman at No. 1 singles for his first win this year. Robin Kiyabu completed LMU's win with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Bill Kring.

On court four, Tom Price beat Regis Chang 6-4, 6-3. Sophomore Sebasitan Bustamante defeated Jese Frieder 7-5, 7-5. Daniel Simko won in his first singles match since a win Feb. 12 at UC Davis, beating Michael Kopelman 7-5, 6-3.

The second half of the Sunday doubleheader sees LMU take on Montana State at 1:30 p.m. Following the match with Montana State, the Lions face Hawai'i Wednesday, Mar. 14 at 1:30 p.m. at the LMU Tennis Center.
