Lions Sweep Lafayette 7-0
Men's tennis shuts out Lafayette College 7-0 for thier fifth straight win

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The month of March has been a good one for the men's tennis team. Today the Lions recorded their fifth straight win over Lafayette College 7-0 at the LMU Tennis Center. The Lions swept both doubles and singles play to record a perfect 7-0 win. LMU is now 8-6 overall this season.
In doubles play, the Lions quickly secured the doubles point with wins all three courts. On court one, Tom Price and Daniel Simko only allowed Justin Haar and Sinan Ipeker to gain one set. Playing together for the first time this season, Price and Simko earned a 8-1 win, at the Lions number one doubles spot. On court two the Lions clinched the doubles point with a win from Tyler Gottshall and Aris Andreasian. The duo set their doubles record to 3-0 with an 8-3 victory over Doug Gallagher and Will Mercorella of Lafayette College. Finally on court three Alex Wilton and Jack Zapala earned the third win for the Lions to wrap up the doubles play. The duo defeated Gelbman/Morris of Lafayette 8-4.
In singles play, Aris Andreasian quickly defeated Justin Haar of Lafayette 6-0, 6-3 for the Lion's first singles win of the day. This is Andreasian's second straight win at home and he is 5-9 overall. The Lions next point came from Daniel Simko on court four, where Simko defeated Kyle MacLelland 6-0, 6-1. Moving up in the Lion's line up, Price was able to maintain his winning streak this afternoon with a win over Scott Gelbman 6-3, 6-1 on court three. This was Price's fifth straight singles win. Teammate Sebastian Bustamante earned the Lions their fifth point on the day defeating Doug Gallagher on court two 7-6, 6-4. On court six, Jack Zapala stepped up to play singles for the Lions for the first time this season. Zapala defeated Matt Shapiro of Lafayette 6-2, 2-6, 6-0. Finally in only his second singles match of the year, freshman Tyler Gottshall earned a win over Will Mercorella 6-4, 7-6, 6-3 on court five. Gottshall usually plays singles for the Lions and came through for his first singles win and the Lions final point on the day.
Next up the Lions will face top ranked UCLA at 1:30pm on Tuesday March 22nd.
