Lions Drop Match to no. 31 BYU
March 27, 2010 LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The men's tennis was not able to hold off no. 31 BYU cougar's today falling 7-0. The Lions who have won 7 of their last 10 matches were looking to add another win to their record however were not able to hold off BYU. In singles play the Lions were unable to snatch a win from the Cougars. On court one, Ivan Lopez pushed Evan Urbina to three sets however was unable to come back in the third to get the win going 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 overall. Otto Sauer looked promising in the second set on court two however Shubert of BYU prevailed 6-0, 7-6. Borja Malet dropped 6-1, 6-1 to Gregory Mears of BYU at the third position while teammate Geza Bazula also fell 6-3, 6-4. In other singles play Smith defeated Renzo Maggi 6-4, 6-2 and Hwang defeated Johan Berhoff 6-3, 6-2. In doubles play the BYU halted Ivan Lopez and Otto Sauer's five match winning streak. Lopez/Sauer were defeated by Mears/Shubert 8-3 on court one. On court two, Smith and Batrakov of BYU defeated Borja Malet and Renzo Maggi 8-5. Finally on court three, Geza Bazula and Johan Berhof lost to Urbina/Hwang of BYU 8-6. Next up, the Lions will face conference opponent Pepperdine in Malibu, Calif. At 10:00 am on Thursday April 1st.
