Santa Barbara, Calif. -- Head Coach Tom Lloyd and LMU men's tennis took three players to Santa Barbara for the weekend to compete in the annual UCSB Classic. The Lions competed in singles and doubles at the tournament as their fall season continues.

The field was packed with competition from the West as the Lions got a preview of a number of teams from their region. In attendance along with LMU were host UCSB, Cal, UC Davis, UCLA, UC San Diego, Northern Arizona.

For the second consecutive weekend, senior Daniel Simko had an extremely strong showing. Simko competed in the Flight A singles division, in which he won the consolation bracket. After dropping a tough opening round match to Alec Adamson of UC Davis, Simko would not look back as he went on to win his final three matches. He defeated Alex Locci of Northern Arizona 6-2, 6-4. Then he took down UCSD's Horea Porutitu 6-3, 6-1 before closing it out against UCSB's Tobia Galskov in three tough sets for the 6-4, 1-6, 6-1 victory.

Also competing in the Flight A singles division was freshman Luke Bohuslav, who was battled hard right from the get go. In the opening round, the newcomer closed out Rajeev Herekar of UCSD in three sets, winning 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. After falling in his next two matches, Bohuslav got back on track with a consolation win over UCSB's Andrew Riminton.

Junior Robin Kiyabu also accompanied the team over the weekend. In the Flight A doubles, Kiyabu was paired with Bohuslav as the two competed side-by-side for the first time. The duo had a rough start with a few close losses before defeating a pair from UCSB in the seventh place match.

Next up for the Lions is the ITA Regional Tournament next weekend.
