Carson, Calif. - After several Lions qualified for Thursday's main draw, the day two match-ups at the ITA Region 8 South Championships proved to be challenging for the young LMU squad.

Michael Wojnarowicz and Matt Phillips lost a nail-biter today to No. 5-seeded Pongsrikul/Ysern of San Diego. LMU led 7-5 and served for the match, but were unable to close out the match and eventually fell 9-8 (7-3 in the tiebreaker).

"Mike and Matt played a great match today," head coach Nik DeVore said. "They just weren't able to close it out. A match this tight can come down to just one or two points, and that was the difference."

In singles play Freshman Nico Terrien fell 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 to No. 9 seed Jason Pongsrikul of San Diego.

Beau Berglund and Wojnarowicz also fell to seeded players in the opening round of the main draw.

Terrien, Berglund, and Wojnarowicz will participate in the back draw on Friday, and the team of Berglund/Terrien will play their first main draw doubles match in the round of 16, having received a default in the first round.
