Freshman Ethan Prost advanced through the qualifying round, reaching the main draw at the 61st annual SoCal Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament last weekend. Prost and Cartier Juan also combined to reach the Main Draw in doubles.
Prost opened play against Concordia's Florian Mayer, dispatching his opponent, 6-3, 6-3. In the second round, Prost met ninth-seed Christian Schmid, topping the APU player, 7-5, 6-2, to advance into the Main Draw. Now facing the top seed in the tournament, USC's Brandon Holt, Prost fell, 6-0, 6-0.
Dropping into the Consolation Bracket of the Main Draw, Prost got his revenge on the Trojans, knocking off Jens Sweaney, 6-1, 7-6(2). A withdrawal moved Prost on to the next round, but he fell, 6-4, 6-2 to USD's August Holmgren.
Prost and Juan teamed to post an 8-5 victory in the opening round of doubles play, but they advanced to meet the second seed in the tournament, USD's Holmgren/Keerasuntonpong, dropping the match, 8-5. Alex Bourgeois and Ryan Brown also competed in doubles, defeating UCSD's Ermert/Manoharan, 8-4, before dropping an 8-2 decision to top-seed Frank/Schmid of APU.
The Lions will now return home to host the LMU Invitational featuring LMU, San Diego State, Nevada and Pepperdine from November 10-12.
