Los Angeles, Calif. - In a day that saw the Lions face some very tough matches, the doubles team of Beau Berglund and Mike Wojnarowicz earned the right to advance to today's round of 16 at the Southern Cal Collegiate.

Berglund and Wojnarowicz defeated Portland's Borchard and Jager 8-2 to advance to today's round of 16. The LMU junior/sophomore team will face Evan Austin and Tigran Martirosyan of Kentucky.

In singles, Berglund fell to No. 5 seed Kris Kwinta of UCLA 6-0, 7-5, and Wojnarowicz lost 6-1, 6-1 to Nathaniel Emge of Kentucky.

Freshman Linas Cicenas nearly pulled off a huge upset in the round of 32 on Thursday. Cicenas lost 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 to No. 2 seed and No. 31-ranked Manual Kost of Oregon. "Linas really raised his level of play in this one," head coach Nik DeVore said. "This was by far the most confident match he has played this year. If he plays like this in the spring he is going to win a lot of matches for us."

The Southern Cal Collegiate, in its 47th year, is one of the oldest and most prestigious college tournaments in the country. Former champions include Arthur Ashe, Stan Smith, and Luke Jenson.

Play continues throughout the weekend at the tournament.
