Men’s Tennis Favored to Finish Fifth in WCC Preseason Poll

WCC Preseason Poll Release

The Lions have been selected to finish fifth in the West Coast Conference, according to the preseason poll announced by the conference on Wednesday.

Three teams were able to grab at least three first-place votes by the conference coaches, with San Diego topping the poll at four, and Pepperdine and Portland not far behind with three first-place votes. The Lions finished fifth, just behind BYU, with a total of 46 points, and were able to place one player on the six-man preseason All-WCC men’s team. Preseason

Gabriel Diaz Freire, a sophomore for the Lions, had an impressive freshman season in 2017. Diaz Freire went 13-6 in dual play, including 5-2 in WCC matches last season. He also posted a 10-6 mark in doubles play, taking into account his 6-2 finish in WCC matches with teammate Nick Borchenko. Diaz Freire was named Second Team Singles and All-WCC First Team Doubles as a freshman.

LMU will open their season at UCLA this Tuesday at 2:00 PM. The 2018 WCC Men's Tennis Championship will take place at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont, Calif., April 26-28.
