Lions Open Spring Season with Victory over Nevada
The LMU men's tennis team got the spring schedule off to a solid start on Thursday, defeating visiting Nevada, 5-2, at the LMU Tennis Center. For the Lions, the victory runs their record to 1-0, while Nevada falls to 1-1 with the loss. The Wolf Pack defeated UC Riverside on Wednesday to begin their 2012 season.

Prior to this season, LMU last received a national ranking in 2016, taking the #68 spot in late March before climbing to the previous program-best mark of #58 in April. This is the fourth season in which a Lion squad has entered the rankings, claiming the #75 ranking in 2004 and 2015.

"It's nice to be noticed in the ITA rankings and it gives us confidence that we belong alongside the top in the nation," head coach Tom Lloyd said. "We are aware that it is only February, and by no means are we content with where we currently are, but I am very happy for our program and LMU."

The Lions took last week away from competitive action, with their most recent match resulting in a 4-1 victory against Fresno State in Tempe, Ariz. on February 10. Other victories this year for the Lions include wins over San Diego State, UNLV and New Mexico State. The only two setbacks came against #6 UCLA on the road, and at Arizona State.

The Mustangs also came out on top in their last match against the University of San Francisco. Both teams have defeated San Diego State and Fresno State, but Cal Poly also dropped a match to Fresno State and Arizona State as common opponents.

Following this Friday's match, LMU will remain at home for the weekend, where they will battle Nevada on Sunday at noon. Both matches this week will feature live stats and live video, with links on the LMU men's tennis schedule page.
