Tennis Defeats Gonzaga

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Earlier today the men's tennis team added another win to their season defeating conference opponents Gonzaga University 6-1 earning their fourth win on the season. This puts the Lions at 4-7 overall this season, 1-1 in conference match-ups, and gives them a strong competitive momentum as they have now won four of their last six contests. In doubles play, the Lions swept the bulldogs winning all three of their doubles matches. On court one after dropping the first set, Ivan Lopez and Otto Sauer came back to win the next eight defeating Roman Dojcak and Scott Sullivan of Gonzaga 8-1. This gives Lopex/Sauer a 6-5 record in doubles on the season. Meanwhile on court two, Renzo Maggi and Jack Zapala defeated Eischen/Guillermo 8-5 and Johan Berhof and Geza Bazula defeated Gonzaga's Davis/Feeney 8-3. Both Maggi/Zapala and Berhof/Bazula have not competed in doubles together this season, however they both played well clinching the doubles point for the Lions. In singles play, the Lions were once again led by Ivan Lopez at the number one position. Lopez defeated Roman Dojcak of Gonzaga 7-5, 6-2 giving him a 7-4 overall record in singles this season and three straight wins in March. On court two, Otto Sauer added another win to his record defeating Conor Feeney 6-0, 6-3 while Borja Malet continued his winning streak defeating Levin Guillermo 6-3, 6-2 on court three. Renzo Maggi extended his singles record to 5-6 overall with a win over Scott Sullivan 6-0, 6-3 at the number four position. Geza Baluza went to three sets however was unable to stop Jake Davis in the third going 1-6, 6-4, 10-5. Finally at the sixth position, Aris Andreasian defeated Kevin Eischen 7-6, 6-1, 13-11 making him 4-4 overall in singles this season.
Next up the Loins will play Marist University at the Manhattan Beach Country Club Sunday March 14th at 2:00pm. The Lions will be looking to continue their strong play and add another win to their record tomorrow against Marist. |
