SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- The West Coast Conference has named LMU sophomore Alex Wilton to the conference’s All-Academic team. Wilton was named to the team for his accomplishments both in the classroom and on the court. Alex is a Management major who currently has a 3.71 grade point average.
Wilton has played #1 or #2 singles all season. In his most recent match, the sophomore defeated Spencer Smith of No. 52 BYU. In doubles, Wilton had a stretch of three consecutive wins with three different partners in February. He and partner Felix Van Kann held a five-match win streak late this season.
Six members of this year's All-Academic team appeared on last year’s All-Academic list: Gonzaga’s Levin Guillermo and Zhia Hwa Chong, Saint Mary’s Maxime Olivan, San Diego’s Patrick Pohlmann and Thibaut Visy, and San Francisco’s Richard Bucalem.
At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects 12 individuals to the all-academic squad to mirror the all-conference men’s tennis team. To be nominated, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average based on the most recently completed term at the time of nomination, be at least a sophomore in both academic and athletic standing, and prove to be a significant contributor to his team.
Alex and the Lions will be in San Diego this week for the WCC Championships. Fifth-ranked LMU will take on eighth-ranked San Francisco this Wednesday, April 25 at 9:30 a.m.
