LOS ANGELES -- The LMU men's tennis team will continue its busy fall slate of tournaments when they head to Irvine, Calif. for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Pre-Regionals tournament at UC Irvine this weekend. The event will feature the best collegiate tennis players in the southwest.
The Lions will compete in the UCI Pre-Regionals in preparation for the ITA Regionals at the same venue two weeks later. LMU's men have played in International Tennis Federation (ITF) pro circuit events this season, which have featured both current and former collegiate tennis players from all around the world.
Last weekend at the ITA Men's All-American Tournament, LMU's Nicholas Bjerke and Sebastian Bustamante fell in the second round after receiving byes in the first round. Bjerke lost to Duke University's Josh Levine, 7-6, 6-1. Bustamante won his first set, but fell to the University of Arizona's Andre Vidaller, 2-6, 6-4, 7-5.
The ITA Regionals feature only college players but have 87 different regional sites for men and women from Division I, II, III, NAIA, and junior colleges.
The tournament begins Friday, Oct. 5 and continues throughout the weekend.
