It was all about the program on Saturday at the Burns Aquatics Center, as LMU men’s water polo put together its most complete game of the young season to earn an 18-6 win over Fresno Pacific in Western Water Polo Association play.

Lions Can’t Get Road Equalizer

It was another thriller in the rivalry between LMU and 14th-ranked UC San Diego in the Western Water Polo Association opener in La Jolla, Calif., on Wednesday night. It once again came down to the final shot, as Eric Reitmeir’s shot at the buzzer couldn’t connect at the Tritons pulled out the 11-10 win.

Road Rivalry Begins WWPA Play

LMU men’s water polo will begin play within the Western Water Polo Association on Wednesday when they make their annual trip to La Jolla, to take on WWPA rival UC San Diego at 6 pm. The Lions will then return home to face Fresno Pacific on Saturday at 12 noon as part of Alumni BBQ Weekend.

Fourth Quarter Difference in Top-10 Doubleheader

LMU hosted the first Conference Challenge Cup on Saturday, welcoming both No. 8 UC Irvine and No. 9 Pepperdine from the Golden Coast Conference in a doubleheader. The Lions found themselves following a similar script for a full house at the Burns Aquatics Center.

Just 19.1 miles a part, LMU and Pepperdine have been battling one another for over a half century and it has grown to where 13 teams will face each other throughout the calendar year. And for the last decade, men’s water polo has been the opening act in this long time rivalry.
