Max Miyahara will conclude his fourth full season, joining the program in January of 2001. During his tenure in assisting Head Coach John Loughran with all three aquatic programs at LMU, the men's water polo team earned two Western Water Polo Association conference championships and the women's water polo program earned three straight WWPA titles.
As one of the up-and-coming assistants in the water polo industry, Miyahara has become an important piece in the successful tradition at LMU.
As an undergrad at Queens College in Flushing, NY, Miyahara helped start the schools first varsity women's water polo team while he captained the men's team.
Following graduation, Miyahara landed a job as the head girls water polo coach at Esperanza High School in Anaheim, CA. In addition to coaching the girls' team, Miyahara served as the assistant varsity boys' water polo and swim coach. He also served as the head JV boys' water polo coach.
Miyahara's record at Esperanza H.S. is impressive. During the 1998-99 season, Miyahara led the girl's water polo team to a 22-4 record, reaching the semifinals of the CIF Division 1 playoffs. That season Miyahara was named Sunset League Coach of the Year as he guided the girl's team to its first league championship.
