Lions Post 30 to Open Season
Men's water polo sweeps opening day of season, Triton Invite thanks to offensive outburst.

LA JOLLA, Calif. - The LMU men's water polo program, ranked eighth in the nation to start the 2011 season, opened the 2011 UC San Diego Triton Invitational with a pair of 15-goal outbursts in defeating Redlands and Cal Lutheran in La Jolla, Calif., on Saturday.
The Lions started the day with a 15-3 win over Western Water Polo Association foe Redlands and then knocked off Cal Lutheran in the final game, 15-5.
Senior Edgaras Asajavicius, the team's leading scorer the last two seasons, started his final season with a bang, scoring nine goals on the opening day. He netted five against Redlands and then four more in the win over Cal Lutheran.
Sophomore John Mikuzis added six goals, including four against Redlands. Ten different Lions scored on the day.
In the opener, the Lions lead 7-2 at the break and then outscored Redlands 8-1 in the second half. In the second game, the Lions left little doubt early, going up 10-2 at the break.
The Lions will play a pair of ranked conference foes on Sunday. They open with No. 19 Air Force at 10:30 a.m., followed by host and 12th-ranked UCSD at 3:30 p.m
