Season Starts With A Bang

La Jolla, CA – The No. 8 Loyola Marmount University men’s water polo team started the 2008 season with an offensive explosion, putting up an 18-3 win over No. 17 Cal Baptist in the first of two games on the day at the 2008 UC San Diego Triton Invitational in La Jolla, Calif., on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Lions advance in the winner’s bracket and will face No. 6 UC Santa Barbara at 5:10 p.m.

The Lions scored 18 of the first 19 goals as they cruised to an 18-1 lead and never were threatened. Sophomore Tibor Forai, who was a third-team All-American as a freshman thanks to a team-high 50 goals in 2007, scored the games first three goals in less than three minutes. He finished with four goals, scoring another in the second quarter.

Freshman Edgaras Asajavicius opened his career with two goals and sophomore Daniel Smith added three. Also scoring a pair was Tim Heafner and Brian Benedetti
