Los Angeles, CA (Sept. 19) - Junior Endre Rex-Kiss continued his scoring ways for the Loyola Marymount University men's water polo team as his two overtime goals lifted the Lions to an 8-7 win over Long Beach State in the ninth place game of the Southern California Men's Water Polo Tournament at USC Sunday afternoon.
With the game tied at 6-6, LMU and Rex-Kiss scored the only goal in the first overtime period to take a 7-6 lead. Rex-Kiss would score the game winner in the second overtime as 7th-ranked Long Beach also scored in the final overtime. The 11th-ranked Lions improve to 7-2 on the season, going 3-1 at the SoCal Tournament. Long Beach State falls to 4-4 on the season.
Rex-Kiss, who finished the game with four goals, has now scored four or more goals in seven of the Lions nine games this season. He finished the SoCal tournament with 16 goals, giving him 35 on the season.
Both teams would score in the first period and the Lions would take a 3-2 lead into halftime. Long Beach State would then take command of the game in the third with four goals to just one by the Lions to take a 6-4 lead heading into the final period.
The Lions, however, had another come back in mind. LMU would score the only two goals in the fourth quarter to send the contest to overtime.
LMU will return to the Burns Recreation and Aquatics Center to take on rival and fifth-ranked Pepperdine at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26.
