Sept. 29, 2006
Los Angeles, CA (Sept. 29) - The seventh-ranked Loyola Marymount University men's water polo team took a 10-1 lead and never looked back as they post an 11-5 win over Whittier in Western Water Polo Association action at the Burns Recreation and Aquatics Center on Friday afternoon.
The Lions improve to 7-5 on the season and 4-2 in WWPA action with the win. Whittier falls to 3-9 overall and 3-7 in the WWPA.
Senior Cutberto Hernandez led the Lions with three goals, scoring all of them in the first 12 minutes of the contest. Seniors Brian McShane and Matt Reynolds added two goals in the win. Jack Zerbe led Whittier with two goals.
McShane gave the Lions the lead just two minutes into the game with a backhand from two-meter. Hernandez made it 2-0 from four-meter with 5:34 remaining in the half. Whittier made it 2-1 on a goal from Jake Zerbe. However, that would be as close as they would get as the Lions would rattle off eight straight to put the game away.
LMU will be back in action at the Burns Center when they host No. 11 UC Irvine on Wednesday, Oct. 4 and then No. 5 Pacific on Friday, Oct. 6. Both games will be at 3 p.m.
