Water Polo Rebounds With Pair of Ws
Lions claim wins in both games on final day of SoCal Invitational.

Los Angeles, CA (Oct. 15) - The sixth-ranked Loyola Marymount men's water polo team has played in three tournaments on the year and after the final day of the SoCal Invitational on Sunday, the Lions have faced ninth-ranked UC Santa Barbara in all three and walked away with victories. The Lions earned a pair of wins at USC Sunday afternoon and improve to 12-7 on the season.
The Lions began the day in the 12-team tournament with a 11-10 win over No. 14 Long Beach State to advance to the ninth place final against UCSB. LMU went on to post a 10-8 win, their third on the year against the Gauchos. LMU defeated them 10-5 in the final game of the Triton Invitational on Sept. 3 and then in the first game of the NorCal Invitational on Sept. 16, 11-8.
Against the Gauchos the game was even through halftime as the team's enter the lockerroom deadlocked at 5-5. LMU would take a one goal lead after three, 8-7 and then increase to a pair in the fourth. Ryan Fair had his best game as a Lion with four goals in the win. Senior Brian McShane added a pair.
In the win over Long Beach State, the Lions got a hat-trick from senior Cutberto Hernandez and two goals each from Matt Reynolds and Mark Milovic to earn the team's fourth win in the last five meetings against the 49ers.
After an even first quarter, the Lions scored four goals to take a 6-4 lead at the half. Both teams scored three in the third as LMU lead 9-7 going into the final frame.
Senior Ian Elliot had 31 saves in the two wins.
The Lions return home to face WWPA rival UC San Diego on Thrusday, Oct. 19 at 3 p.m.
