Short-Handed Lions Fall
Oct. 18, 2012
LONG BEACH, Calif. -- LMU men's water polo saw host Long Beach State jump out to a 5-0 lead and never look back, as the ninth-ranked Lions fell to the No. 10 49ers, 13-7, at Long Beach Campus Pool on Thursday night. The Lions welcomed back to action starter Matt Stipanovich, who missed the last several weeks of action due to injury. He responded with a pair of goals, but the Lions still were without three starters on the night. Seth Coldren added a pair of goals. The 49ers got a pair of goals from Nolan McConnell and Devin Mefford as part of a five-goal first quarter outburst. The Lions scored four goals of their own to cut the lead to 7-4 at the break. Matt Venner would score the first goal of the third quarter to cut the lead to 7-5. However, LBSU would score the next three goals to put the game out of reach. LMU returns home on Saturday to host rival and 11th-ranked UC San Diego at the Burns Aquatics Center for a TeamLMU game at 12 noon. Box Score
