Lions End Five-Game Week with Runaway Win

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The LMU men’s water polo five-game week at the Rodeo Invitational hosted by Santa Clara was not for the faint of heart. The week included a pair of overtime hearbreakers, three one-goal games and four top-20 opponents.

The Lions last game of the weekend was the one exception, as the Lions earned a 20-8 win over Wagner. The Lions suffered a 12-11 overtime setback to 10th-ranked Brown to start the final day.

The Lions opened the tournament with a 14-13 win over No. 10 Harvard on Friday. Saturday included a 13-12 setback to No, 18 St. Francis and a Bucknell using overtime 6-on-5 opportunities for a 11-9 win.

LMU had balance throughout the weekend with five players earning 13 points in the five games. Dayne Jagga led the Lions with 12 goals, an assist and three steals. Eric Reitmeir earned his 13 points with 10 goals and three assists. Jon Beck had nine goals and four assists while Cory McGee had five goals and eight assists.

Daniel Arellano also had 13 points thanks to 11 assists and two goals. Arellano now has 56 assists on the season to set the all-time single season record in LMU history.

The Lions return home for a pair of conference games. The Lions host Concordia on Thursday at 3 pm and then will host California Baptist on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 12 noon. Saturday’s game will be Senior Day at the Burns Aquatics Center.
