Davis, CA (Oct. 30) -- After taking on the three teams ranked above them in the national polls, the sixth-ranked Loyola Marymount University men's water polo team came out with a sweep of a pair of games Saturday at the UC Davis Aggie Men's Water Polo Invitational.

The Lions started the day with an 8-6 win over host UC Davis and then completed the day with a 13-5 win over UC Santa Cruz. Both wins came against teams in the Western Water Polo Association as LMU improves to 15-8 overall and 8-1 in the WWPA.

Both wins were highlighted by the Lions play in the fourth quarter. The 14th-ranked Aggies battled the Lions even through three quarters. UC Davis took a 1-0 lead after one and the game was tied entering half.

After a stalemate in the third that saw both teams tally a pair of goals, the Lions broke the game open with a solid fourth quarter, getting four goals in the frame for the win. LMU goalie Ian Elliott was impressive with 14 saves in the win.

Junior Endre Rex-Kiss added to his team leading total with three goals. Senior Sean Wimer had a pair, while Brian McShane, Trevor Wagner and Ben Easton each scored.

In the final game of the day the Lions again saw themselves even after one, tied at 3-3 with UC Santa Cruz. LMU broke the game open with a four-gaol third period. After the teams played even in the third, LMU iced the game with a five-goal fourth quarter.

Rex-Kiss had his fifth five-goal game of the season as eight Lions scored. Freshman Nik Barr had a pair. The Lions return home to take on UC Irvine on Nov. 4 at the Burns Recreation and Aquatics Center.
