Long Beach, CA -- The sixth-ranked Loyola Marymount men's water polo team staged a four-goal fourth quarter rally but it wasn't enough as they fell to 10th-ranked Long Beach State, 10-9, in the regular season finale. The Lions fall to 17-9 on the season as they head into the Western Water Polo Association Championship next weekend at Claremont.

It was the fourth meeting of the season between the 49ers and LMU with each winning at home and at a neutral site. The Lions posted a 12-8 win on Sept. 7 in La Jolla and an 8-6 win at the Burns Center on Sept. 27. Long Beach State earned a 7-6 win at the NorCals on Sept. 21 and then the win Thursday night.

The Lions trailed 3-1 after the first period and trailed 6-3 at the break. Both teams scored a pair of goals in the third period as LMU fell behind 8-5 heading into the final frame. The Lions would get within a goal of taking control of the game but could not get over the hump despite outscoring LBSU 4-2 in the fourth quarter.

Edgaras Asajavicius led the Lions with four goals while goalie Andy Stevens had seven saves.
