Another One-Goal Setback Ends Tourney Run
Dec. 2, 2007 STANFORD, Calif. - The 2007 campaign came to a familiar end for the 10th-ranked Loyola Marymount men's water polo team. For the ninth time this season the Lions fell by two goals or less, this time to the United States Naval Academy, 7-6, in the consolation finals of the 39th annual National Collegiate Men's Water Polo Championship at Avery Stadium on the campus of Stanford University Sunday afternoon. LMU goalkeeper Andrew Stevens had another stellar game in the cage, making 13 saves. The Lions finish the year with a 13-17 record, while Navy concludes its season at 30-6. Six different Lions scored on the game while three Midshipmen, Bram Arnold, Mike Mulvey, and Aaron Recko, scored a pair of goals in the contest. Both of Arnold's goals came at the start of the final period, increasing Navy's lead to 7-4. However, LMU looked to another rally like the one they posted to win the WWPA title. Andrew Aki and Julien Lormant scored at the 1:33 and :50 marks of the fourth period to cut the lead two one.
