Pair Claim All-American Honors

LOS ANGELES -- Junior John Mikuzis and freshman Milutin Mitrovic have been named Honorable Mention All-American as announced by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches on Tuesday. Both were named first-team Western Water Polo Association All-Conference for the 2012 season.

The duo gives LMU 31 All-Americans in program history, 30 since 2000. They are the 15th and 16th players to claim the honor in program history. Mitrovic caps a record first season, becoming just the fourth LMU freshman to earn All-American honors.

Mikuzis became a force for the Lions at the center position. He was the Lions go to player in clutch situations, scoring game winners in the final seconds twice on the season and finishing with a career-best 39 goals on the season. He had 25 of his 39 goals in key WWPA games, including five against Santa Clara and three against UCSD and UC Davis (twice). He finished with a shooting percentage better than 56 percent and added 42 kickouts drawn, nine steals and 11 field blocks.

As for Mitrvoic, he set the LMU freshman record for goals in a season with 72, which ranked ninth overall in program history. He added 22 assists (second on the team) and 22 steals. In addition to first-team All-WWPA, he was named the WWPA Newcomer of the Year.

He scored a freshman record six goals in a game, twice, doing it against Harvard and Whittier. He added five assists in the Harvard game and scored in every game of the season.
