LMU Set To Host Finals
After three days and 36 games, Lions will host final day of US Water Polo National Championships Sunday and play at 11:40 a.m.

Los Angeles, CA (Aug. 7) -- Loyola Marymount University will host the final day of the 2004 US Water Polo Men's National Championships on Sunday, Aug. 8. After 36 games in three days, the final day of the Championships will be highlighted by the two semifinals and the title game. Play starts at 7:00 a.m. at the Burns Recreation and Aquatics Center. Advancing to the semifinals will be the Bruin Club (UCLA) taking on Stanford in the first semifinal at 9:20 a.m. That game will be followed by the second semifinal featuring NYAC `A' (New York Athletic Club) against Olympic at 10:30 a.m. NYAC enters with a record of 5-0, the only team to enter with no losses and no ties. The Burins are 4-0-1, followed by Olympic at 4-1 and Stanford at 3-1-1. The Lions, a first-time host of the Championships presented by S&S Hardware Company, Inc., took on rival Pepperdine in a game that went down to the wire. The Lions, however, fall 12-9 and will play in the 11th place game at 11:40 a.m. at the Burns Recreation & Aquatics Center. The teams would trade goals in the first period before Pepperdine would take a 4-3 into half thanks to a pair of goals by Josh Acosta. Cuberto Hernadez and Sean Wimer would each score in the second to keep the Lions within one. In the third LMU would take the lead twice thanks to three goals in the frame. Wimer scored his third followed by Scott Marshall and Pat Reilly. However, Pepperdine would take command in the fourth thanks to six goals in the quarter for the win.
