Men's Water Polo Adds Full-time Assistant

Los Angeles, CA (Aug. 24) -- As Loyola Marymount continues to commit to its goal of Building Champions, LMU water polo and Head Coach John Loughran will have another resource within the program as Justin Jewell joins the men's program for his first season of collegiate coaching.

Jewell will be a full-time assistant for just the men's program as the University committed to adding a separate full-time assistant for both the men's and women's program.

Entering his first full-time collegiate coaching assignment, Jewell does not lack experience. He graduated from Long Beach State with a Bachelorof Arts Degree in Kinesiology and Physical Education in 2003. He played water polo all four seasons at Long Beach State and was a two-time All-MPSF performer, earning honorable mention honors in 2000 and third-team honors in 2001.

Jewell went on to play for the United State Water Polo National Team for two seasons, last playing in 2002. He went on to earn his California Single Subject Credential at Long Beach State in 2005.

He joins LMU after serving as an assistant coach at Woodrow Wilson High School in Long Beach. He was the assistant coach for the women's water polo, women's swimming and boy's water polo programs. He also was a physical education teacher at La Cumbre Junior High School in Santa Barbara.

Jewell's other coaching background includes six years with Shore Aquatics in Long Beach, coaching the 12-and-under youth program for one year and the women's masters program for two years. he currently coaches the men's program at Shore Aquatics.

He also assisted the Long Beach State women's water polo program for a summer in 2002. He was also the United States Development Youth Camp team player representative and skill demonstrator for the Youth Campheld in December of 2002 at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.
