First Big Tourney This Weekend
Men's water polo heads to first big tournament test with NorCal Invitational this weekend at Stanford.

LOS ANGELES - The 10th-ranked LMU men's water polo team will play its first tournament of the 2012 season when they head to the loaded NorCal Invitational hosted by Stanford this Saturday and Sunday. The Lions will open group play of the 16-team tournament against seventh-ranked Pacific at 9:25 a.m., Saturday.
The Lions are the third seed in Group B of this year's tournament, which features 15 teams ranked in this week's national poll. The other pairing in the group features No. 2 UCLA taking on No. 18 Concordia at 8 a.m. The losers of those two games will play in Game #13 at 2 p.m., while the winners play in Game #14 at 3:25 p.m. Group B matches, along with Group C will be played at Belardi Pool, while Group A and Group D are at Avery Pool.
This year's field once again features the nation's best. Group A features No. 1 USC, No. 8 Pepperdine, No. 9 Long Bach State and Pomona-Pitzer. Group C includes No. 3 Cal, No. 6 UC Irvine, No. 11 UC San Diego and No. 16 Air Force. Rounding out the field is Group D, which includes No. 4 Stanford, No. 5 UC Santa Barbara, No. 12 UC Davis and No. 14 Santa Clara.
Action concludes on Sunday with the winner's bracket playing at Avery Pool and the other at Belardi Pool.
The Lions are 1-1 on the season, falling to Pepperdine at the buzzer, 8-7, in their last outing. LMU is led by freshman Millutin Mitrovic with nine goals in the two games, including six in the opener against Whittier. Senior John Colton leads the team with four steals and three assists while senior goalie Kyle Testman has made 24 saves in the two games.
