Comeback Bid Falters in Final Day
Playing its second and third straight team ranked in the nation's top-six, the Lions posted a fierce final game rally but fell int he final seconds to drop the final two games of the 2013 UCSD Triton Invitational in La Jolla, Calif., on Sunday.

LOS ANGELES -- Thanks to the win over its rival last weekend, LMU men's water polo moved to No. 8 in the national poll and sophomore Milutin Mitrovic earned player of the week honors as the Lions head to one of the toughest tournaments on the season.

The Lions (2-3) will head to the 2013 NorCal Invitational on Saturday and Sunday hosted by Cal. The Lions moved to No. 8 in the national poll this week, jumping three spots thanks to the 10-9 win over then-No. 8 Pepperdine. The Lions will be one of 14 ranked teams in the 16-team field.

LMU has been slated to play in Bracket C and will take on No. 9 Long Beach State in at 12:15 Saturday. Bracket C also includes host and fourth-ranked Cal and No. 20 Air Force. Action will take place at Cal's Spieker Pool. The Lions have already faced both Cal and Long Beach State, falling to both at the Triton Invite to open the season.

Also in this year's field is No. 1 USC, No. 10 Pepperdine, No. 7 UC Irvine and Diablo Valley College, who will also host games. Bracket B consists of No. 2 UCLA, No. 6 UC Santa Barbara, No. 11 UC San DIego and No. 16 Concordia. Rounding out the field in Bracket D is No. 3 Pacific, No. 5 Stanford, No. 12 UC Davis and No. 15 Santa Clara.

The Lions are led by sophomore Milutin Mitrovic with 14 goals in five games on the season, having a hand in eight of the Lions' 10 goals last Saturday to earn the KAP7 Western Water Polo Association Player of the Week. He had four goals and four assists to help pace the Lions to the win.

Senior goalie Gavyn Wild had 10 saves, including a pair on penalty shots.
