Tourney Play Continues with Convergence
Men's water polo to play in final regular season tournament of the season with trip to Claremont Convergence.

LOS ANGELES -- The 2012 collegiate water polo season is near its halfway point, and a week after a successful tour of the SoCal Tournament, the ninth-ranked LMU men's water polo team will travel to its final tournament of the season when they play in the Gary Troyer Claremont Convergence on Friday and Saturday.
The Lions are coming off a ninth-place finish at the loaded SoCal Tournament last weekend to move up a spot in the latest national poll to a No. 9 ranking. Junior John Mikuzis earned KAP7 WWPA Player of the Week honors after scoring 13 goals in a five-game week for the LIons.
They will take that momentum into the multi-site Claremont Convergence this weekend, taking on a pair of WWPA foes and a couple east coast programs. The Convergence will be taking place at La Verne, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Pomona-Pitzer starting at 10 am on Friday, Oct. 5 running through the evening of Saturday, Oct. 6.
The Lions will open with host Claremont at 1:40 p.m., in their first game of the tournament on Friday. They will follow with Redlands at 4:40 p.m. at Pomona-Pitzer's Haldeman Pool. On Saturday, the Lions will take on Harvard (3:20 p.m.) and Iona (6 p.m.) at Claremont.
Through 13 games on the season, the Lions sit at 7-6 overall with 11 of the games coming against the nation's top-20. With wins over UC San Diego and Santa Clara at the SoCal Tournament last weekend, the Lions are 5-1 in the WWPA.
Senior Kyle Testman anchors the Lions in the goal, playing every minute on the season in earning 125 saves on the year. Offensively, Mikuzis is second not he team with 23 goals, second behind freshman Milutin Mitrovic, who has 32 goals. Mitrovic has also added nine assists and nine steals on the year.
The Lions line-up has had balance throughout the first 13 games, including seniors Jon Colton and Collin Walters along with sophomores Joe Ferretti and Mark Menis. Colton has contributed nine goals, 13 assists (top on the team) and 10 steals while Walters has 12 goals, 10 assists and 12 steals. Ferretti has scored 10 goals with eight assists and 13 steals (tops on the team). Menis has contributed 12 goals, eight assists and 10 steals.
