WWPA Home Match-up Highlights Weekend

LOS ANGELES - LMU men's water polo will wrap-up their three-game homestand on Friday, when they host Western Water Polo Association foe Air Force on Friday, Oct. 7 at 3 pm. It is part of a three-game weekend for the Lions, who will play a pair of games at the Gary Troyer Memorial Tournament hosted by Pomona-Pitzer and Claremont on Saturday.

Water Polo Earns Big Road Win
The 17th-ranked LMU men’s water polo team continued to show road toughness on the season, defeating 14th-ranked Air Force, 13-10, in a Western Water Polo Association match-up Friday at the Academy’s Cadet Natatorium.

The Lions are coming off back-to-back wins to start the homestand, defeating WWPA foe Fresno Pacific, 18-6, on Sept. 24 and then La Verne, 14-3, on Oct. 1. The Lions are 4-7 overall and are 1-1 in WWPA play. The 19th-ranked Falcons are 3-8 on the season and lost a heartbreaking 15-13 overtime affair to UC San Diego last weekend.

Leading the way for the Lions is a youth movement. Sophomore Dayne Jagga leads the Lions with 27 goals, ranking fifth in the WWPA. Fellow sophomore Daniel Arellano is the league leader in assists with 29. And yet another sophomore Eric Reitmeir leads the team in steals with 20, ranking fifth in the WWPA. Freshman Alex Athimaritis is second on the team in assists with 18.

On Saturday, the Lions will head the the Gary Troyer Memorial Tournament hosted by Claremont and Pomona-Pitzer. The Lions will face La Verne for the second time in two weeks at Claremont starting at 2:15 pm. They will then head to Pomona-Pitzer to take on the Sageness at 6:30 pm.
