Oct. 17, 2012
STORY: Lions' All-Access Preview | TeamLMU | Men's Water Polo Yearbook | LMU on Facebook | LMU on Twitter LOS ANGELES -- This week for LMU men's water polo will have a very familiar feel as the Lions will play a pair of games against teams they have already seen a combined five times. The ninth-ranked Lions will open at 10th-ranked Long Beach State on Thursday at 6 p.m., followed by a showdown with rival and 11th-ranked UC San DIego at home in a TeamLMU game on Saturday at 12 noon. The Lions have split a pair of games with the 49ers and have taken two of three from the Tritons. At the NorCal Invitational on Sept. 16, the Lions defeated UCSD 10-6 but fell to Long Beach State 9-7. After falling to UCSD in La Jolla, Calif., on Sept. 26 (10-8), the Lions face both teams again, this time at the SoCal Invitational. On Sept. 30 they defeated UCSD, 13-11, and LBSU, 13-10. LMU enters the game at 11-7 overall on the season and 7-1 in the WWPA. UC San Diego is 7-6 overall and 7-2 in the WWPA. Long Beach State, who defeated UCSD last weekend, is 17-3 on the season. The match-up with the Tritons at the Burns Center will be the fourth of the season and the second straight TeamLMU game for the Lions. LMU will continue to look to defense to find success. Senior Kyle Testman is averaging over 10 saves per game on the season while seven Lions have 10 or more steals on the year. Testman, Collin Walters and Mark Menis all have 17 steals to help power the defense. On the offensive side of the ball, freshman Milutin Mitrovic continues to shine in his first season, leading the team with 51 goals. John Mikuzis is second with 30, flooded by Seth Coldren with 24 and Walters with 22. Walters has been a stat-stuffer this season, adding a team-best 20 assists and 22 kick outs drawn. The Lions TeamLMU game is part of Madness Weekend and will be sandwiched between the two basketball Crimson & Navy Scrimmages. The women's basketball team start at 10 a.m., followed by the men at 2 p.m. Click here for more info.
