LOS ANGELES – Wednesday marks the final regular season water polo match of 2017. Loyola Marymount closes out their four-game home game streak with a non-conference match against No. 7-ranked Long Beach State at 3 p.m.
The Lions (6-18, 2-5 WWPA) are looking for their third win against a ranked team this season, having already topped No. 12 St. Francis and No. 20 Santa Clara. This will also mark the final home game for LMU’s seniors, Dominick Beaudine, Neil LeVecke, Tim Shaw, Zach Gleason, and Davis Waugh. The five Lions were honored on Saturday with a postgame ceremony with their teammates and families.
Long Beach State (12-11, 2-2 GCC) sits in fourth in the Golden Coast Conference standings, despite being a top-seven team in the nation entering the week. The Beach is coming off a 10-9 conference win over No. 11 San Jose State last Friday.
The match will also be LMU’s Veterans Appreciation game.
Following Wednesday’s game, the focus will then shift entirely towards the Western Water Polo Association Championships. This year’s WWPA Tournament will be hosted by UC San Diego from Nov. 17-19.
