Jessica Vargas begins her fifth season with the Lions but third on the court after being granted a medical redshirt in 2007-08... Rhodes Scholarship finalist and 2009-10 LMU Scholar of the Year... defensive specialist... will get opportunities to score... tenacious defender who will use her long arms to turn deflections into steals... has battled injuries in each of the last three seasons but should compete for a starting spot...

National Scholar-Athlete... played in three games, starting one before tearing Achilles tendon at UC Santa Barbara (Nov. 22) and missing the remainder of the season... averaged 5.0 ppg and 3.3 rpg on 75% (6-of-8) shooting before her injury...

Played in 24 games and started three times for the Lions... averaged 10.9 minutes per game to go along with 2.1 ppg and 1.4 rpg... recorded season-highs of three steals and 32 minutes vs. Arizona... scored a season-high nine points on 4-for-9 shooting at San Francisco... played 22 minutes at Fresno State, recording five points, two rebounds, one steal, one block and one assist... went 4-for-4 at the line vs. Long Beach State... played 27 minutes at Saint Mary's, scoring five points and pulling down four boards...

Jessica Renae Vargas was born on August 27, 1988 in Flagstaff, AZ... daughter of Angela and Steve Vargas... has a younger brother, Marcus... recruited by Portland, Harvard and Boise State... a member of the National Honor Society and the recipient of the Scholar-Athlete award... also won the University of Rochester Award in Humanities and Social Sciences... was a National Hispanic Recognition Scholar... graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor's degree in biochemistry and currently pursuing a Master's in Education...
