Kate Murray enters her fifth year with the Lions after redshirting last season due to a knee injury…will again serve as team captain this season…earned All-WCC first-team honors and was named to the WCC All-Academic team in 2001-02…was also selected to the Verizon Academic All-District VIII team that year…a very humble person who doesn’t bring attention to herself…the only female in the state of Oregon to earn all-state honors in basketball and soccer five years ago…has developed into a great veteran leader…has the versatility to play both power forward and pull up and shoot…is extremely committed to the program and to LMU…knows the game and has become a big contributor…has unbelievable ball handling confidence…was the first high school player from Oregon to play at LMU under coach Wilhoit.

Played in only five games before suffering a season ending ACL injury …was granted a medical redshirt…scored a total of 78 points in her five games, including a season-high 24 at UC Santa Barbara (12/5/02)… scored her 1,000th career point in the first game of the season with a 19-point performance against UC Riverside (11/25/02).
Appeared and started in all 28 games for the Lions…finished the year second on the squad in 3-pointers (29), free-throws (66), rebounds (174), assists (100), steals (36) and points (387)…set new single-game career-highs in: 3-pointers (3) against Colorado State (1/4/02), assists (10) against Long Beach State (12/6/01) and points (28) against Santa Clara (1/26/02)…was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line against Portland (2/16/02)…led the team with five double-doubles on the year…16 points, 10 rebounds against Marist College (12/28/01); 20 points, 10 rebounds against San Francisco (1/11/02); 14 points, 10 rebounds against Gonzaga (1/19/02); 18 points, 10 rebounds against Pepperdine (2/2/02) and 12 points, 10 rebounds against Gonzaga (2/15/02)…scored in double figures in all but six games…shot an impressive, season-high .714 (10-14) from the floor against New Mexico (1/2/02)…came up with three blocks against San Francisco in Round 1 of the WCC tournament (2/28/02)…collected a season-high four steals against Arkansas State (11/24/01)…ended the year averaging 13.8 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.6 rebounds per game.
Was a starter in all 31 games…finished second on the squad with 408 points, ranking her eighth in the single-season record book…also finished seventh on the single-season chart in field goals (158) and third in free-throw percentage (.772)…free-throw percentage was fifth best in the WCC…recorded 52 steals on the year, second among Lions and eighth in the conference…currently ranks ninth in career steals with 112…finished eighth in the WCC averaging 13.2 points per game…recorded three double-doubles on the year…vs. Xavier (11/25/00) 23 points, 11 rebounds…vs. Western Michigan (12/22/00) 13 points, 10 rebounds…vs. Pittsburgh (12/30/00) 17 points, 10 rebounds…set career highs in points (23) and rebounds (11) against Xavier…hit a personal-best nine free-throws against Pepperdine (1/17/01)…was perfect from the charity stripe seven times throughout the year…attempted a career-best 19 field goals against Santa Clara (2/9/01) and Saint Mary’s (2/24/01).
Saw action in all 28 games and started in one…had a total of 804 minutes played…recorded a season-high 17 points vs. Colorado (12/30/99)…set a personal best of eight rebounds against St. Mary’s (1/13/00) and San Francisco (1/21/00)…posted double-digit points 11 times…led team with 14 blocks on the season…a 0.50 block per game average was good enough to finish eighth among conference leaders…recorded 60 steals throughout the season to finish second among Lions and third in the conference…averaged 7.2 points per game and 3.7 rebounds per game.
Murray is a 1999 graduate of Jesuit High School in Portland, OR…a 4.0 student, she was the valedictorian of her senior class…a member of the National Junior Honor Society, she was a two-sport athlete participating in basketball and soccer…a first-team all-state pick in basketball as a senior, she earned honorable mention accolades following her junior year…was tabbed a USA Today All-American as as a senior prep…a three-time All-Metro League pick, she captained both the basketball and soccer teams…averaged 10.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 3.0 steals per game as a senior prep…led the team to a third-place finish in 1998 and 1999, and a fourth-place finish in 1997 in the state basketball tournament…helped lead the soccer program to three Oregon State Championships…was twice named second-team all-state in soccer…she earned first-team All-Metro League soccer honors as a junior and senior…prep basketball coach was Kathy Adelman.
Kathryn Estabrook Murray was born on Feb. 17, 1981 in Eugene, OR to David and Kimberly Murray…she has one sister, Quinn…was also recruited by San Francisco, San Diego and Boston College…enjoys watching movies and spending time with friends in her spare time…lists Hawai’i as her favorite vacation spot…a business major.
