Valerie Ogoke enters her senior year with the Lions... had a strong season as a sophomore and improved upon that as a junior, becoming one of the top post players in the West Coast Conference... extremely athletic... a huge talent... can be a tenacious defender... long arms create steal opportunities... great at securing rebounds and driving to the basket... quick learner... very smart... has made huge strides offensively.
In her junior year as a Lion, Valerie averaged 7.7 points and 7.1 rebounds per game... after struggling from the field in the first four games of the year, rebounded with an 11 point, 9 rebound effort against American having an outstanding all-around game with three blocks, two steals, and two assists... had season high five blocks in the game vs. Iowa State... moved to number four in the LMU career top ten for rebounds in just two seasons with 94... was selected to the LMU Ayres Hotel Thanksgiving Classic All-Tournament Team... also selected to the Cyclone Classic All-Tournament Team after a solid all-around performance... averaged 8.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in the tournament and blocked five shots against the Cyclones... had three steals in the tournament... scored 10 points, and added nine rebounds, four steals, two blocks, and three assists against Pepperdine... had 10 points and nine rebounds against Santa Clara... was 6-10 from the field for a season-high 13 points in the regular season finale against Saint Mary's... Dean's List Spring 2007...
Ogoke had an outstanding sophomore year, and recorded her first double-double of the season against Cal Poly, finishing with a career-high 15 points and 11 rebounds... broke her career high and led LMU in scoring with 18 points against San Francisco... she scored 12 points against UC Irvine... she was 4-for-5 from the field and 4-for-6 from the free throw line... shot 45.1% from the field...had 43 steals, including four steals in each game of the WCC Tournament...made starts against Arizona, Georgia, Santa Clara and Saint Mary's...second on the team with 67 offensive rebounds...shattered her career high with five blocks against UCSB, also a high for the WCC this season...was 5-for-8 from the field, scoring 11 points against Long Beach State...went 6-for-7 from the field against Cal Poly... had three blocks vs. Pepperdine... leads the team in blocks, and is fourth in the conference... already in the LMU career top 10 for blocks... recorded double doubles in the two final regular season games, with 16 points and 12 rebounds against SCU, and 17 points and 10 rebounds against SMC... scored 10 points with nine rebounds vs. Pepperdine in WCC Tournament.
Strong freshman season, culminating in being named to the WCC's All-Freshman Team... played in all 29 games, starting two... averaged 5.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game... registered a double-double in her first career start against Cal Poly (12/11/04)... scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in 32 minutes of action... a strong rebounder, she led the team in offensive rebounds... averaged 2.7 offensive boards per game... recorded a season-high seven offensive rebounds at Santa Clara (1/20/05)... third in the WCC in offensive rebounds in conference games... also ranked 6th in the WCC in blocks in all games, averaging 0.8 per game... had a career-high three blocks against Cal Poly and Pepperdine (2/26/05)... five double-digit scoring games, including a season-high 15 points against Hofstra (12/28/05)... also had 25 steals and 16 assists on the season... played double-digit minutes in all but two games.
A 2004 graduate of St. Mary's Academy in Inglewood, CA... a four year letterwinner, and three year captain... earned all-league honors as a sophomore, junior and senior... named All-CIF as a junior and senior... named team MVP three years.... she averaged 17.7 points, 16.1 rebounds, 6.7 blocks and 4.8 steals per game earning her a spot on the 2003 Daily Breeze All-Area second-team... earned first team All-Daily Breeze honors as a senior... was a member of the California Scholarship Federation... had 28 points with 26 rebounds and six blocked shots in a game as a sophomore... prep basketball coach was Bo Corona.
Valerie Ekwie Ogoke was born on Sept. 10, 1986 in Inglewood, CA... daughter of Catherine Okekenta... mother attended Ahmada Bello University in Nigeria... has two brothers, Maurice and Ronald and one sister, Desiree... was also recruited by Princeton, Dartmouth, San Diego, Santa Clara and Portland... chose LMU for academics, athletics and location... an accounting major.
