LOS ANGELES - On the day that the 2003-04 LMU women's basketball team was honored on the 10th anniversary of their 2004 West Coast Conference Championship, the 2013-14 Lions clinched a 78-64 win over visiting Portland Saturday in Gersten Pavilion.

Five Lions scored in double figures for the third time this season as LMU improved to 6-14 overall and 3-6 in West Coast Conference play. Deanna Johnson led all scorers with 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting. Hazel Ramirez tallied her third career double double with 12 points and 11 assists while Emily Ben-Jumbo notched the second double-double of her career with 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Lezlie Lopez-Wood chipped in 14 points and Sophie Taylor had 11. Portland (11-9, 4-5 WCC) was led by Jasmine Wooton's 14 points and seven rebounds as five total Pilots reached double figures.

Portland would hit the first bucket of the game - a jumper by Amy Pupa - but the Lions would respond with a 14-0 run while holding the Pilots without a field goal for nearly 10 minutes.

LMU would maintain the double-digit lead through the first half, stretching the spread to as many as 17 points on an and-one layup by Johnson with 1:44 to play. A pair Wooton free throws and a Cassandra Brown three trimmed the Lion lead to 12, 33-21 at the half.

Shooting nearly 42 percent from the field and from three, the Lions would open up the lead to as many as 34 points late before clearing the bench for the final four minutes of play. Portland would close out the game on a 20-0 run for the final 14-points spread.

LMU closes out the three-game homestand Saturday, Feb. 1, hosting Wells Fargo PCH Cup rival Pepperdine at 2 p.m.
