STOCKTON, Calif. -- Bree Alford secured the game-winning layup for the Loyola Marymount women's basketball team with one second remaining on the game clock, leading the Lions to a 79-77 victory over Pacific in the 2017-18 regular season finale. This completed the 2-0 season sweep of the Tigers, as LMU defeated Pacific 75-60 earlier in the season on Dec. 30.

Stat-stuffer Gabby Green paced the Lions on the day, posting a career-high 32 points to go along with eight boards, four assists and four steals. Alford finished with eight points, nine rebounds and four assists. Raychel Stanley chipped in 10 points while Chelsey Gipson finished with eight.

Loyola Marymount and Pacific were all tied up at 77-77 with 9.7 seconds remaining in the game. Lions head coach Charity Elliott drew up a play that resulted in a Makenzie Cast three-pointer that was just off the mark and a missed putback attempt by Gipson before Alford secured the rebound and finished a layup as time expired to give the Lions the final edge.

Pacific's two seniors, Desire Finnie and GeAnna Luaulu-Summers, led the Tigers on the day scoring 19 and 13 points respectively.

"We knew this was going to be a battle for 40 minutes and it sure was," Elliott said. "I'm very proud of how we kept fighting, and what can I say about Gabby's performance today? She hit some huge baskets for us and continues to do so much for our team on both ends of the floor. That last basket for us coming off of an offensive rebound by Bree shows the fight and heart that this team has. Josie Buckingham gave us great minutes today as well. I'm really proud of our entire team today."

LMU finished the regular season with a 19-10 overall record including an 11-7 mark in WCC play. Pacific ended its regular season 13-16 overall and 7-11 in WCC action.

The Lions will hit the road once again next week to take on the WCC Championships in Las Vegas. Seeding information and game times for the Lion men and women will be posted soon.
