LMU Hits The Road For Two Contests At Santa Clara And Gonzaga This Week

LOS ANGELES -- The Loyola Marymount women's basketball team (10-3, 2-0 WCC) hits the road for two WCC matchups this week. The Lions will first take on the Santa Clara Broncos (4-9, 0-2 WCC) on Thursday, Jan. 4 at 7 p.m. and will then travel to Spokane, Wash. to battle the Gonzaga Bulldogs (9-4, 2-0 WCC) on Saturday, Jan. 6 at 2 p.m.

LMU still has the best overall record in the WCC (10-3) and is one of three teams undefeated in conference play (2-0, tied with Gonzaga and Pepperdine). Santa Clara is still seeking its first conference win, sitting at 0-2 in WCC action after suffering losses to Pepperdine and Gonzaga. The Lions have earned WCC victories against Saint Mary's and Pacific.

Lions point guard Gabby Green was named The West Coast Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for January 1, 2018, after leading the Lions to a 2-0 week to open conference play. She posted a game-high 18 points to go along with a career-high seven steals and three blocks against the Gaels in the conference opener on Dec. 28 and two days later stuffed the stat sheet against the Tigers by finishing with eight points, 10 rebounds, five assists, four blocks and three steals. On the week, Green averaged 13.0 points, 6.0 boards, 5.0 steals, 3.5 assists and 3.5 blocks.

Green and guard/forward Cheyanne Wallace of LMU both rank among the top in the conference in several categories this season. Wallace ranks fourth in points (17.3), 10th in rebounds (7.4) and eighth in free-throw percentage (.736). Green ranks first in steals (2.8), second in blocks (1.6), sixth in points (15.0), fifth in assists (4.3) and third in minutes played (33.7) per game.

Both contests at Santa Clara and Gonzaga will be streamed live on TheW.tv.

After Saturday's game at Gonzaga the Lions will have a few days off before playing another road game at San Francisco on Thursday, Jan. 11 at 7 p.m.
