Lions Host USD On Saturday As LMU Promotes Pancreatic Cancer Awareness

LOS ANGELES – Saturday, Jan. 13 will serve as Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day at Loyola Marymount University as the Lions host San Diego for a 2 p.m. matchup. The game will be played in honor of the late Lisa Velasco, mother of women’s basketball student-athletes Andee and Bianca Velasco. Fans who wear purple in support of pancreatic cancer awareness will receive a discounted ticket rate for the game ($5), and the first 100 fans in attendance will receive purple LMU water bottles.

Women's Basketball Endures San Diego, 63-55
Behind four Lions scoring in double figures for the first time this season, the LMU women's basketball team earned a 63-55 victory over San Diego Thursday night at Gersten Pavilion.

LMU sits at 11-5 on the season with a 3-2 WCC record, while San Diego is 9-7 overall and 2-3 in WCC play. The Lions are 7-2 at home while 4-3 on the road, and the Toreros are 6-2 in home contests and 2-5 while away in 2017-18.

This marks the first home game for the Lions since defeating Pacific 75-60 on Dec. 30. The Lions have played three consecutive road games leading up to Saturday’s contest, first defeating Santa Clara (65-51) and losing to Gonzaga (77-67) and San Francisco (78-60).

LMU has another home game against BYU coming up on Thursday, Jan. 18 at 12 p.m. This game will serve as Education Day at The Pavilion.
