Ramirez Named WCC Player of the Week
This marks the second career WCC Player of the Week honor for Ramirez.
Feb. 17, 2014
SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Hazel Ramirez averaged 16.5 points, 11.5 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game to lead the Lions to a home split in West Coast Conference play to earn the league's Player of the Week nod for February 17, 2014. This is her second career WCC Player of the Week honor and the first for a Lion this season.
Ramirez had 17 points, 11 assists and seven rebounds as the Lions came from behind to claim a 76-74 overtime victory over Saint Mary's Thursday. She was instrumental in the Lions' win, including draining the game-tying three with five seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime. Her double-double performance was her fourth of the season. Two days later, Ramirez eclipsed the LMU single-season record for assists, came one shy of breaking her own school record for single-game assists and finished two shy of owning the LMU all-time assist mark.
Against the Pacific Tigers, the senior point guard finished with 16 points and 12 assists in the 102-95 setback. She tallied her sixth assist of the game on a Mackenzie Kerins' bucket, good for her 148th of the season. She would go on to break Kristen Bruich's single-season record (148) set in 1988-89 with her seventh assist - a dish to Kerins at the 5:23 mark of the first half. Ramirez matched her own career-high, and the LMU single-game record, with 12 assists. The senior point guard now has 440 for her career, one shy of the LMU all-time record held by Marlee Webb (1993-96).
