Cowling Named WCC February Player of the Month

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Redshirt senior Alex Cowling was named West Coast Conference February Women's Basketball Player of the Month, the second such honor of her career at LMU.
Cowling averaged 15.6 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.7 steals in seven games in the month of February, leading the Lions to a 3-4 record. She hit double figures in each game, including a team-high 18-point performance in LMU's 71-50 win over Santa Clara (Feb. 7) and a team-high 16 points in a 70-56 loss to Gonzaga (Feb. 9). She also tied for the team high of 19 points, to go along with 10 rebounds, in a 66-59 loss to San Diego (Feb. 14). She was instrumental in the Lions' first road victory of the season, a 58-56 victory at rival Pepperdine (Feb. 21), collecting 10 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals.
Cowling then capped the month with her biggest performance of all, scoring 21 points (along with eight rebounds, three assists and four steals) in a huge 68-55 upset of BYU (Feb. 28) to become the WCC's all-time leading scorer. Her final point, a free throw with 59 seconds remaining, gave her 2,166 career points, which eclipsed the standing WCC record of 2,165 set by Gonzaga's Heather Bowman (2006-10).
