LOS ANGELES - Leslie Lopez-Wood, a 5-9 shooting guard from Bishop Alemany High School becomes the third member of the 2013-14 LMU women's basketball recruiting class, Head Coach Charity Elliott announced Thursday.
Lopez-Wood joins early signees Alyson Lock (Keppel High School, Alhambra, Calif.) and Olivia Lucero (Highland High School, Gilbert, Ariz.) in Elliott's first recruiting class at LMU.
"We are thrilled to welcome Leslie Lopez-Wood to the LMU women's basketball family," Elliott said. "She comes from a fantastic high school and club program and is one of those hard-nosed relentless players. She brings all of the intangibles both on and off the floor and is a tremendous leader and competitor who can flat out shoot the ball."
Averaging 16 points and four rebounds per game her senior season, Lopez-Wood led the Warriors to the CIF Division III California State Championship. She scored 16 points in the title game 46-40 win over Sacred Heart Cathedral and was named Most Valuable Player of the CIF Championship game as well as CIF Southern Section Division 3AA Co-Player of the Year.
Lopez-Wood also earned first team All-Mission League and second team MaxPreps Division III All-California Girls Basketball Team honors as Bishop Alemany went 32-5 overall and 9-1 in league play. Arguably her most memorable performance of the season was in a December 7, 2012 68-40 win over AB Miller when she poured in 10 three pointers en route to a 30-point effort.
"I have complete confidence that Leslie will stretch the opponent's defense because of her range and has the basketball smarts to make great decisions," added Elliott. "She knows what it takes to win championships and is excited to join the Lion family!"
