DEAUVILLE, France - The LMU women’s basketball team continued their #ROARINGthroughEUROPE tour as it landed them in Deauville, France. They hit more sites and took to the court for their second game.

In Deauville, the Lions were five minutes from the town center and they took in picturesque views of Normandy’s varied landscapes. Deauville is a seaside resort on the Cote Fleurie of France’s lower Normandy region. It’s known for its grand casino, golf courses and American film festival.

On Friday the day began with a tour of Normandy and its historic landing beaches. The Normandy region combined a 360-mile coastline, incdluing the dramatic World War II landing beach. The largest military landing in history took place there on June 6, 1944. The team also got a tour of the Caen War Memorial and the American Cemetery.

“Today was incredible. We had an incredible tour of Normandy and Omaha Beach and the American Cemetery,” said Head Coach Charity Elliott. “It is just unbelievable the sacrifice and courage of those soldiers, especially seeing the history with our own eyes. You understand how challenging that terrain is and how amazing our troops were that day.”

The day ended with the Lions playing their second game. They took on IFS, and here is what coach had to say:

Never be afraid to try something different ! #TastingSomethingNew #RoaringThroughEurope 🦁

“After those amazing sites, we had our second game tonight. We won by one point…we have had two close games which has given us some great opportunities to learn some valuable lessons for sure!”

“We won 68-67 with Leslie Lopez-Woods leading the way with 13 points followed by Bianca Velasco with 11. We are focusing on the process right now and we corrected some things in today's game and now our next game we have some different corrections to make.”
