Wallace Named Preseason All-WCC, Lions Picked Fifth

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – At the annual West Coast Conference Basketball Tip-Off event at The Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. on Wednesday, the LMU women’s basketball team was predicted to finish fifth overall in the WCC women’s basketball preseason poll, as voted by the league’s 10 head coaches.

Gonzaga took the top spot in the poll as they racked up 79 points with a seven-point edge over the No. 2 ranking Saint Mary’s (72 points). BYU was slotted third (68 points) and San Diego (54 points) came in fourth. LMU totaled 48 points in the voting to secure fifth place. Santa Clara (6th, 39 points), San Francisco (7th, 36 points), Pacific (8th, 28 points), Pepperdine (9th, 14 points), and Portland (10th, 12 points) round out the WCC women’s basketball rankings.

LMU junior Cheyanne Wallace was voted to the 2017-18 All-WCC Preseason Women’s Basketball Team. The 10-player team is also voted by the WCC coaches. Wallace, a 6-foot guard-forward, earned 2017 All-Conference honorable mention following her strong sophomore season in 2016-17.

LMU will open its season with an exhibition game against Occidental on Tuesday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. at Gersten Pavilion and the team’s home-opener takes place on Tuesday, Nov. 21 vs. Arizona, also at 7 p.m.
