Alex Cowling Named WCC Player of the Week
Junior ties career high in leading LMU to pair of wins

LOS ANGELES - On the verge of joining LMU's 1,000-point club, junior Alex Cowling earned her third career West Coast Conference Player of the Week honor, the conference office announced on Monday. Cowling led the Lions in scoring in each of the team's games last week, wins over Long Beach State and at Cal Poly.
Cowling (Benecia, Calif.) averaged 25.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game last week to move within five points of joining the 1,000 point club. On Monday against Long Beach State, Cowling had a team-high 19 points to go along with nine rebounds in LMU's first win of the season, 74-43. She followed that up with her 11th career double-double and tying her career-high with 31 points in a 77-58 victory at Cal Poly. Cowling scored 22 points in the second half and added 11 rebounds to turn a three-point halftime lead into comfortable win. For the week, Cowling shot 53.3% (16-for-30) from the floor, 50% (1-for-2) from three-point range, and 94.4% (17-for-18) from the line.
Cowling has led the Lions in scoring in each of the team's three games this season and is averaging 22.7 ppg and 8.0 rpg. She has 995 career points heading into Monday night's game at Sacramento State and is poised to become the 12th member of LMU's 1,000-point club. She previously was named the WCC Player of the Week on November 30, 2009 and December 8, 2008.
