Osborne Named LMU Rowing’s Interim Head Coach

July 3, 2017

Hanna Osborne has been named Interim Head Coach for Loyola Marymount University, Athletic Director Dr. William Husak announced on Monday. The news follows Justin Price’s departure to become the Head Coach at Rutgers University.

“I am grateful to the department and university for this opportunity. I also want to thank Justin for his mentorship this past year and wish him the very best in his next journey. I believe in this team and this incredible athletic department,” said Osborne. “I am eager to get back to work with our entire program. Our incoming class is full of enthusiasm and drive and we have a strong group of hard working leaders who are passionate about LMU Rowing returning to the team next season. We have a great foundation in place thanks to the hard work of the athletes and coaches in the 16-17 season and all the alums that have paved the way, and I am excited to continue to build off of that.”

Osborne just completed her third year on staff with the Lions after coaching for two years at Green Lake Crew in Seattle, WA and spent a summer season with the Pennsylvania Athletic Club. She has been involved with the rowing program at LMU since her competition days as a student-athlete beginning in 2009. As a senior, Osborne helped the Varsity 8+ to a victory over WCC-Champion Gonzaga in a head-to-head race and helped defend the Berg Cup with a victory in the Varsity 8+ race. In 2013, Osborne was named to the WCC All-Conference team. A Freshman Oarswoman of the Year, two-time Lion Pride award winner and member of SAAC while at LMU, she also served as team captain and raced in the varsity 8+ all four of her years as a student-athlete.

“I want to thank Dr. Husak and Dan Smith for the opportunity to be a part of the LMU community and for providing tremendous support. I also would like to thank our student-athletes for their hard work and dedication to the program,” said Price. “I am thrilled for Hanna as she has been an incredible asset to the team and is absolutely prepared to lead this program. She has been instrumental in the recruitment of the student-athletes and has developed strong relationships with the team.”

Prior to hiring Price in June of 2016, Osborne served her first stint as Interim Head Coach during the transition. She led LMU through the spring racing season in 2016, culminating in a third-place finish in that year’s West Coast Conference Championships.

“I wish to thank Justin for his work at LMU and we wish him the best in his new position,” said Husak. “I couldn’t be more excited for our future rowers. Hanna showed that she has the capability to lead the program when she served as interim head coach prior to Justin’s arrival. With the added experience she has gained, her positive personality and ability to relate to both our men and women rowers I believe the future is very bright. On top of these attributes, Hanna is an alum of the program and understands the high expectations we have for winning, graduating and personal development for our student-athletes.”
