Jill Dobens begins her fourth year at LMU…a two-time All-Conference selection…one of the most dangerous players on the team…has a great change of pace…a very good one-on-one player offensively…is comfortable on the ball…a good attacker who is able to set up teammates to score…battling bilateral compartment syndrome in her legs which could limit her playing time.
Played in 15 games and made 12 starts…collected a total of 14 shots, six of which were on goal…scored her only goal of the year against Baylor (Sep. 7)…earned two assists on the season…one against CS Northridge (Sep. 28) and one on the game-winning goal against San Francisco (Oct. 21).
Named second team All-Conference for the second straight season…finished second on the team with three goals and nine points…started and played in all 19 games as a sophomore…added three assists on the season…was second on the team with 40 shots, including 10 against Arizona (Sept. 24)…against the Wildcats she had a goal in the 3-2 win…she added a goal against San Diego (Oct. 13) and Saint Mary’s (Oct. 27)…capped a three-point game against USD with an assist…added assists against Arkansas (Sept. 16) and Pepperdine (Nov. 4), which was the game winner.
She was named to the All-West Coast Conference second-team and to the SoccerBuzz Magazine All-Freshman West Region team…a third-team All-West Region selection by the NSCAA…adding an instant scoring threat for the Lions, Dobens knocked in eight goals and two assists that season…third on all-time single-season goals chart and tied for third on all-time single points chart with Jessica Lyon…she had two multiple goal games, two goals in a 7-0 win over Utah State and a 6-0 win over San Francisco…finished the season with two game winners, 2-1 victory over Long Beach State and the first goal in the win over Utah State…played in all 19 games for the Lions, which included 18 starts…was tied for 10th in the WCC in goals scored and 10th with .42 goals per game…she averaged one point per game, leading the Lions in that category with 18 total points…her 40 shots and 27 shots on goal also led the team…WCC Player of the Week Oct. 11 after two-game stretch against USF and Utah State…voted Offensive Player of the Year by teammates.
Dobens is a 1999 graduate of West Torrance High School in Torrance, CA…a four-year soccer letterwinner…honored as the Bay League MVP as a senior and a two-time all-league selection…garnered All-CIF first-team honors as a junior and senior…named the South Bay Daily Breeze Player of the Year in 1997…served as team captain throughout her senior campaign…led team to Bay League Championship in 1998-99…prep coaches were Mike Shimizu and Shelly Marsden.
Jill E. Dobens was born on Aug. 7, 1981 in Santa Monica, CA…the daughter of Michael and Rhonda Dobens…has two sisters, Kelly and Laura…chose LMU for its size and location…lists “Beverly Hills 90210” as her favorite television show…a prep teammate of fellow Lion Allison Marra…enjoys going to the beach and working out…a psychology major.
