LOS ANGELES - Jocelyn Blankenship and Shannon Kent each tallied a goal Friday night to lead the LMU women's soccer team past visiting Grand Canyon, 2-1, in a exhibition match at Sullivan Field.

Just 18 minutes into play, the Lions took the early 1-0 advantage. Freshman defender Jill Farley sent a long cross into the mix from the left wing where an open Blankenship calmly headed the ball into the near post netting.

Grand Canyon evened the score in the 51st minute as Cassie Beckwith's high crossing ball from the right flank curled into the net past the reach of LMU goalkeeper Sophia Leksan.

But the Lions would respond again as Shannon Kent provided the game winner, using her chest to direct the ball into the goal off a cross from Maddie Medved.

LMU's starting lineup featured four freshmen, including Medved, Farley, Lexi Frey and Sarah Sanger. Ten new faces saw action for the Lions as 17 total players took to the field.

The Lions' official 2014 season opener is on deck, scheduled for Friday, Aug. 22 against New Mexico State. Kick off at Sullivan Field is scheduled for 7 p.m.
