LOS ANGELES - Redshirt junior Carolyn Dunn scored the first goal of her career in the 82nd minute of play to lift the LMU women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Northeastern Sunday at Sullivan Field.
The win moved the Lions to an even 1-1-0 on the young season while the Huskies dropped to 0-2-0 on their season-opening California swing.
Focusing on their attack after a 3-0 loss at Cal Poly to open the 2013 season on Friday, the Lions had six shots in the first half, but really started to get things going in the second frame.
The final breakthrough came at the 81:05 mark when Jocelyn Blankenship bent in a low corner kick from the left side. Dunn met the ball in the front of the goalmouth and one-touched it past the hands of Northeastern goalkeeper Paige Burnett for the 1-0 advantage. LMU then held on for the final eight minutes for the shutout victory.
THe early-season three-game homestand continues Friday when the Lions host Montana at 4 p.m. - the first game in a doubleheader with the LMU men's team. All 2013 LMU women's and men's soccer home games will be web streamed free of charge this season on LMULions.com
